What makes it hold up
Core thickness
13 mm gives more power and a larger sweet spot; 16 mm gives more control. Most first ranges stock both rather than choosing.
Thermoformed edge
A thermoformed edge bonds the face to the core under heat, which reduces dead spots near the edge compared with a glued edge.
Surface texture
Face roughness is specified and measured, because it affects spin and because USAPA limits it.
